I am interested in joining my local ambulance service, but I have heard terrible things about people who know other people within the organization. I really want to go, and I want to know what the work really is.

I am a paramedic in Calgary. It really depends on where you work and for which services. If it paid or volunteer. Paramedics typically for 4 days on 4 days rest to work, the changes can take 12 hours, 10 hours and 8 in larger areas. Wil areas is generally free on-call 24 hours a day over four days, then you have three days. When I was in the rural areas, please me very well and was in a town of about 5,000 people (working), but a popular tourist destination, so that when I served in uniform, and I would be at the center in my house, take a nap or do something when a call has been cleaned, which got 5 minutes to the station and outside the ambulance bay ... our call volume is around 700 per year, usually 2 calls per day is very sweet.
This race is great, I love the variety and challenges! The scene is what really separates EMS health careers. Many oppurtunity medics are always in demand, there is job security in most cases, and plenty of room to advance, you can work on the rapid response of EMS, public education, as FLIGht medical, EMS teams are moving in the scene with response teams and much more. Not everything is great, as I said depends on where the work of the services available, working 4 days 24 hours talk time and therefore burn in some more populated areas can be very fast. The work is challenging in many respects from what has to be really motivated to love her and I want to make it good. Also a problem in some regions than in the United States to Canada have.
